Yeo Yu Quan Ashlyn
Ashlyn is a guitarist who is versatile in many genres, with fingerstyle being her main forte. She enjoys alternative rock and indie-folk. She possesses a strong classical guitar background, with ABRSM certifications under her belt. In 2016, she started her YouTube channel Shlyn Mashups, which features her fingerstyle arrangements of various songs.
She developed an interest in composition and arrangement during her time in LASALLE and enjoys composing for film. Under the tutelage of Sebastian Ho, she endeavours to continue broadening her skill sets to fulfill her potential as a multidisciplinary artist. She is also an illustrator and designer on the side and has experience executing and fulfilling her clients’ visions with her own unique rosy aesthetic.
Work
Ashlyn has performed in several LASALLE events such as the LASALLE Diploma in Music Level 2 Showcase with the band Front7 (2021), and the Diploma in Music Level 3 Recital (2021).
She participated in and won the Nation in Harmony Songwriting Competition in 2019, organised by United Records. This allowed her the opportunity to work with local singer Inch Chua as the featured artist in her song ‘Up’. She also participated and performed in the Singapore Youth Festival: The Youth Station Project Original Songs, where she obtained an Honourable Mention.
She has a YouTube channel featuring covers that she reimagines in her distinctive dreamlike style. Her channel has garnered over four million views and 56,000 subscribers. Over time, her social media presence garnered the attention of big companies such as Taylor Guitars, ThaliaCapos and COPIC, which shared her videos on their own social media platforms. She later had the privilege to work with ThaliaCapos to design her own guitar strap with the expertise of the company.
She also has experience in teaching a variety of guitar playing styles, as well as illustration using Copic markers. Her innovation in transforming old apparel into new unique pieces has gained her the interest and trust of her global clients.
