Mohamed Shaker is a Singaporean writer based in Singapore. He is graduating with an MA Creative Writing from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2022. A former and, hopefully, future educator, his writing explores how Singapore and Singaporeans continue to live with, and in their past, in the present.

Thesis work

Rewang is a novel-in-progress that follows the course of a weekend-long Malay wedding attended by three central characters (a mother, her son and his boyfriend). Two threads run through this story: the first, the tensions the two men must navigate in the course of their relationship; the other, how the mother is tormented by the ghosts of her past and present — the traumas of Singapore’s industrialisation and a marriage that is falling apart.
