Vrinda Maheshwari

BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries
2019 — 2022

Vrinda is graduating with a BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries from LASALLE College of the Arts. Born and raised in India, she was introduced to creative fields at a young age by art fanatic parents who encouraged all forms of creative pursuits. Her formative years were spent surrounded by a medley of creative and intellectual pursuits, playing dress-up in her parents' wardrobe whilst listening to daily dinner table debates.

This sparked her passion for fashion and world affairs, in particular the art of journalism. To her, both topics are never mutually exclusive, and her penchant for both forged her path in fashion communication, leading her to pursue an undergraduate degree in a diverse country like Singapore. Grateful to have had experiences with a variety of people in many creative and design fields, across borders that pushed her to improve, Vrinda hopes to continue learning the impact of design and creativity in all aspects of life, and better her design language and aesthetics.

Work

To What The eyes Cannot See

A fashion zine existing on both physical and digital platforms in a multimedia format of original images, film and poetry. This attempts to chronicle the emotional journey that is caused by the trauma of sexual violence. The zine aims to open up discourse on the behavioural impacts that shape a survivor’s relationship with their own body, dress and surroundings. It reiterates the insipid cultures of victim-shaming and blaming, asking audiences to destroy such narratives and extend empathy and understanding towards survivors.

This project came from a very personal standpoint, inadvertently becoming a call for closure to the incident, an attempt to forgive myself and break away from the cultures of victim-blaming and shaming.
